Job Description:

Temporary Surgery Orderly Positions for Surgical Tech Students.

The surgery orderly/nursing assistant serves as the primary patient transport person.

JOB DUTIES Assists with patient care and functions as a messenger when needed. Transfer, transport, move, lift, and position patients. May scrub for cases if indicated. Assist in maintaining a clean safe environment, which includes stocking designated supplies and assists with cleaning between surgical procedures. Trained yearly on age specific care and completes core competencies for the patient populations designated in the Scope of Service. Follows Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Practice is based on the theoretical framework of nursing at Baptist Health Paducah including the principles of Relationship-Based Care. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITY

  • High school graduate or GED is required.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Surgical Tech program.
  • Previous healthcare experience is helpful.
  • Some heavy lifting and moving required.
  • Good communication skills are required.

Supervised by department director and nurse manager. Performance evaluations are conducted at the end of the three-month probationary period by the director/nurse manager. Evaluations, thereafter, are on a yearly basis.
